Direct Sell Expo

In November, we were invited to attend the Direct Sell Expo that was put on by Scott Taylor. He is a local business owner and entrepreneur who liked our product an wanted to give us some stage time in front of other business owners. This expo was intended for multi level marketing companies, but we went in hopes that they would see us as a charity and that they would donate to the cause. This is Doug Wright presenting with Bruce wearing a prosthetic that we built for him.
He walked around on the leg and showed off its capabilites. Thanks Bruce for being there and for helping out with the expo. Thanks to Bruce's wife as well, she is pregnant and supported him the whole time.

Here is our table with out posters and out donation bowl. We were able to raise a little bit of cash and made some great contacts with people that are currently helping or will help in the future.
This is the majority of those who came up. From left to right: Dave Williams, Sadie Blasucci , Julie Bagley, Doug Wright, Bruce's wife (sorry I forgot your name!), Bruce, Alex Jafek, Chantelle Ledingham.
The keynote speaker was Ron McMillan who has authored many books including "The Influencer". This was a great experience which has given us many contacts and helped our project be exposed to another market. This is also where the idea came to put the "Donate" link up on our website. A special thanks to Scott Taylor for all of your help with making this event a success for 2ft.

Student Innovator Of The Year Competition

A couple weeks ago "2ft Prosthetics" entered the Student Innovator of the Year (SIOY) competition held at BYU. We made it to the semi-finals by putting up a poster in the hallway and answering questions from the judges. Doug Wright gave the presentation just an hour after having received a root canal! We were awarded 2nd place, which was worth $1500. This will be a great aid in helping us go on our next venture to Tonga.
We were also awarded $2,500 and judges choice from the Perry Foundation which has given us mentoring opportunities with companies like IDEO, Mulago Foundation and Catapult Design. These are all innovative companies that have given us aid with product design and disbursement.

Peery Social Entrepreneurship Fellow Doug Wright accepts his award from the foundation's Jessamyn Lau and BYU's Todd Manwaring.
This event was featured on the Mechanical Engineering's homepage of their website.
With this being the first SIOY competition, it drew quite a crowd. There were a total of 30 entries with 12 making it to the semi-finals. It was a great honor to be able to compete and to introduce our product to more people. We hope that this idea will continue to spread and that people who need our product will be able to receive it soon.

August Newsletter

Sorry about the months of silence. Even though we have not said much on this blog, we have still been very active. This past July we were able to go to El Salvador and fit a few amputees with our leg. The attached newsletter describes this, as well as other activities that we have done.

1st Place - Social Venture Competition

Hooray for the vision of 2ft Prosthetics as it took FIRST PLACE in the Social Venture Competition at BYU (Brigham Young University). For the winning prize the team will receive $10,000 dollars to implement their idea this upcoming summer.Dave and Kay presented the idea on powerpoint in front of their peers and yesterday in front of the judges.
To prove that this prosthetic device works, they had an amputee come and wear it for the crowd to see. It was AWESOME!!
As you can tell by the looks on their faces, they were all excited to see some of their hard work pay off in winning this competition today.Dee Williams and Roland Radack, two of the teams mentors', were both present to support this effort which all team members appreciated. They provide confidence and direction to these individuals in a way that others do not.
Great job 2ft Prosthetics! This is definitely a day to be celebrated!!!.....and first place goes to,.......da, da, dah!,...2FT PROSTHETICS!
